So you’re bored of the everyday life, eh? Going grocery shopping, doing Pilates, being head of the PTA, and securing that new CFO position not doing it for ya anymore? Looking for something to vamp up the va-voom? Well, as part of our continued effort to offer females the sultry jobs they’re so desperately craving, we are presenting you with our first SexyJob: a professional mermaid.
The particular mermaid pictured above works at the Weeki Wachee Springs State Park in Florida where she performs shows lasting anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes underwater (they have air hoses, don’t worry). Before you jump into your new career (ha, pun!), a warning must be made: mermaid business is not all fun and flowy. Performers spend countless hours rehearsing a highly stylized swimming technique called the Mermaid Crawl. It’s about being graceful and looking natural,” one mermaid explains. Aside from the training, the working conditions can be rough. The water usually runs at a temperature of 70 degrees (BRRRRRR) and the mermaid tail alone weighs 15 pounds!
As strange/random as this career sounds, it’s not totally unheard of. There are actually lots of bars (the Dive Bar in Sacramento for example) and hotels that put on mermaid shows for their audience. So if you can train your face to look relaxed and calm under water where you have limited air and visibility, then you are all set to venture into the mermaid kingdom. And just for the heck of it, let’s watch a mermaid show:
